3 Day Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi National Park

DAY 1: PICK UP EX KIGALI AIRPORT AND TRANSFER TO BWINDI NATIONAL PARK

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by Amahoro driver/guide and depart by road via Cyanika Border to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You will arrive at your lodge in time for lunch and an afternoon spent at leisure.

DAY 2: GORILLA TRACKING ADVENTURE IN BWINDI NATIONAL PARK UGANDA

Today, after an early morning breakfast prepare yourself for an encounter with the Mountain Gorillas. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest boasts both Mountain Gorillas and Chimpanzees – the only forest in Africa which can make this claim in fact. It also hosts five other species of primate, 113 species of mammal, over 200 butterflies and 360 birds. Given the fact that gorilla tracking time is unpredictable, it is difficult to foresee how many hours you will actually hike. The escapade of tracking the gorillas in the superb ecosystem of the park will be passionate for the adventurers. It may take 2hrs up to 9 hours or more and you should be prepared to walk long distance in steep and muddy conditions, sometimes with rain overhead, before you encounter any gorillas. “The excitement of seeing the gorillas makes it all worthwhile!” The briefing will be given on how to handle or behave with these gentle giants always. This is a fantastic and privileged opportunity to get up close and personal with Uganda’s very own ‘Gorillas in the Mist. Later stay for dinner and overnight at your hotel.

DAY 3: DEPART

After breakfast, you will depart to the Cyanika border for clearance formalities with the immigration and on to Kigali arriving for a tour of the city. Named in 1907 by Dr. Richard Kandt, the first colonial resident governor of Rwanda; Kigali city is surrounded by lush hills of green and is referred to as the land of a thousand hills. Get to visit interesting spots which may include; the craft market, Gisozi genocide memorial site & Kigali museum. Engage in last-minute shopping in one of the friendliest African capitals, before returning to the airport for your onward international flight back home.

DAY 3: DEPART FOR QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park and on our way we pass the equator where we will make a stop. If time permits take an afternoon game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park one of the best places in Uganda to see lions. Expect to see elephants, lions, many hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes and maybe leopards. Later stay for dinner and overnight at your hotel.

DAY 4: QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

After an early breakfast take a morning game drive then back to the camp for lunch. In the afternoon take a boat trip to the Kazinga Channel one of the highlights of Uganda and has the highest concentration of hippos in the world. The 36km Channel connects two Rift Valley lakes: Edward and George. These are named after Queen Victoria’s son and heir, Edward VII and his own successor, George V. Early explorers in Africa often had to cope with inhospitable terrain and travel by boat was especially difficult. Now you can experience the sights and sounds that greeted these early pioneers in comfort. Cruise the Kazinga Channel and view the immense concentration of hippos at close range, spot over 100 species of Water Birds, marvel at the majestic Elephants in their natural habitat and the notorious Nile Crocodiles sunbathing on the channel bank. This will allow you to experience wildlife up close where hippos huff and spray mere feet away, Buffalo linger in the shallows and a tremendous variety of birds grace the grasses on the river’s edge. Amongst those you will see are the malachite and pied kingfishers, great white and pink-backed pelicans and the open-billed stork. With some luck you will even spot Elephants on the river banks coming for a drink and a bath. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 5: DEPART FOR KIBALE NATIONAL PARK + BIGODI WALK

After your early Morning breakfast depart for Kibale National park arriving for the afternoon Bigodi swamp walk. Bigodi was established by a local development organization to protect the 4sq-km Magombe Swamp that’s home to around 200 species of birds (highlights include papyrus gonolek, white-winged warbler and great blue turaco). The highlight of this tour is catching a glimpse of the great blue turaco. The swamp is also good for spotting butterflies and primates, with 8 different species here, including grey-cheeked mangabey. The 2-3 hour guided walk is led by experienced local guides who interact with the guests and make the trip both enjoyable and exciting. Have lunch enroute/enjoy packed lunch and later transfer to your hotel in time for Dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 6: CHIMP TREKKING AND NATURE WALK

At 6:30 am, take your breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters for briefing by the park ranger. At 8:30am you will transfer to the starting point of the tracking trail. It usually takes a minimum of 3 hours to track the chimps in the forest. After the chimp trek, return to the lodge for a hot lunch, as you prepare to go for an evening nature walk in the Bigodi wetland. Expect to see some primates, including different monkey species, and a plethora of birds like the great blue turaco. Later, return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

DAY 7: DEPART FOR MURCHISON FALL NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast depart for Murchison National park the largest National Park in Uganda with an area of 3840 km2. The River Nile divides the park into the north and south sectors and forms fall where it flows over the western rift valley escarpment. Here, the river is forced through a 6-metre gap in the rocks and cascades into a boiling pot 40 meters below. A boat cruise up-stream to the falls provides an unforgettable experience! Visitors are able to watch a variety of animals. These include elephant, buffalo, giraffe, lion, hippo, crocodile, several antelope species and many species of bird life along the Nile as the boat travels along. Arrive at your hotel for lunch and the afternoon at leisure then later dinner and overnight.

DAY 8: MURCHISON FALL NATIONAL PARK

After an early breakfast the day will be spent viewing game around the park and along the Nile. Later in the afternoon take a boat trip downstream to the delta, where the Nile enters Lake Albert. This 5 to 6-hour trip will reveal the beauty of this national park, and especially the colorful delta birds. This is a great opportunity to see the elusive Shoebill Stork! In the evening, return to your lodge for dinner and rest. We’ll go on a game drive from 8.00am to 12.00noon, seeing several animals along the way, including lions and giraffes. go on the impressive ‘launch trip’ on the Nile, up to the Falls, giving you a chance to see hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes, elephants and many varieties of colorful birds!

DAY 9: MURCHISON FALL NAT PARK – ENTEBBE VIA ZIWA RHINO SANCTUARY

After an early breakfast depart for Entebbe with a stop at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for some rhino trekking in Uganda. We will have lunch here before continuing to Entebbe arriving for the afternoon at leisure then later dinner and overnight.

DAY 10: DEPART VIA ENTEBBE AIRPORT (UGANDA)

After breakfast check out of your hotel and be transferred to Entebbe International airport for your flight back home
