With each new visit, you contribute to the propagation and the promotion of our local culture, the conservation of our environment and the survival of our wildlife. Travel and tourism are very important to our community, and we aim to support the backpackers, tourists, business travellers and NGOs that visit us in all their endeavours. Red Rocks Rwanda – A Remarkable Ecotourism Retreat
Red Rocks Rwanda is a green and unspoilt nook of lush vegetation, a sanctuary for local wildlife and a retreat for visitors. There’s something for everyone at Red Rocks Rwanda, and every visit is a welcome respite from the busy cities our guests leave behind.
As a social enterprise, we’re all about the community, the wildlife, tourism & travel. Our pioneering cultural tourism scheme involves developing our community and promoting our nature preserve through tourism. We strive to make every stay pleasurable and memorable, so bring your cameras, your memory cards and your love of all things natural with you.
We offer ecotourism with a twist. Ours is a tourist site that appeals to people of any age group or background. We reach out to backpackers from across the tourism spectrum: students, academics, researchers, theologians, scholars, wildlife enthusiasts, globetrotters, retirees, volunteers and ‘professional’ nomads.
What we bring new to the table is diversity and drive never before seen in the African tourism industry. Unlike general Rwanda tourism or national tourism websites, our approach is local, so we’ve built a good rapport with the villagers throughout the years and we have in-depth knowledge and first-hand experience of local life.
Learn, Capture and Develop in Your Travels
Rwanda’s natural endowment is unparalleled, and Red Rocks is the place to experience it and its rich history in all in its unspoilt beauty. Our organization draws its name from the igneous rock that covered Northern Rwanda during the volcanic eruptions that occurred some 700 years ago, and we are deeply rooted in local history and culture.
Red Rocks Musanze, Kisoro and Goma are some of the camps that are blessed with volcanic rock and debris specimens. They offer fantastic research opportunities for established geologists as well as children and budding scientists who want to make the most of their travel and tourism opportunities.
Professional photographers can take breathtaking photographs of the forest, the volcano, the night sky or the wildlife, enhance their portfolio and develop in their careers. Nature enthusiasts can enhance their survival skills and learn to coexist peacefully with the flora and fauna of their lush surroundings, capturing inspiring footage that they can then use to educate their friends and families.
Biologists and ecologists can also take advantage of the biodiversity of the area. A wealth of plant and animal species, some of which are endemic, populate the forest, volcano, foothill and bushes, some of them curious and eager to interact with humans who can appreciate their value and are willing to support their wellbeing. Virunga mountain gorillas, golden monkeys and other animals are ready to make your acquaintance and even pose for you.
Anthropologists, historians, theologians, psychologists, spiritualists and people interested in exotic cultures and civilizations can see untarnished Rwandan traditions as they are carried on by new generations. Explore ancient rituals and connect with the locals on a spiritual level. Browse our Photo Gallery for a glimpse of the customs and traditions that you can witness and partake in during your stay.
